Our Mission

To improve the quality of life of patients in geriatric residence facilities by providing long-term, online resources. In addition to providing these resources, we teach patients/nursing staff how to implement these resources when necessary. Above all, we want to put a smile on elderly patients' faces and help them feel supported as they transition into challenging environments.

A study conducted at Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in New York found that people who do not have family support — especially in a dementia subpopulation — required about 40 hours of unpaid care a week. While this level of care from volunteers is often not feasible, our services can be a key part of mitigating this lack of care.

The median length of time per week that home health aides spend with patients in geriatric residence facilities is 80 minutes, which is often insufficient to meet the needs of many seriously ill patients. Thus, we aim to set up long-term services that patients can engage in to feel comforted and connected beyond the minimal amount of time that many of these patients spend with home health aides and volunteers

How We Support Patients

We interact with patients and their families using online questionnaires, through which we are able to learn about their goals of care and how our work can supplement what is already being done. We are especially fascinated by the use of music therapy to support these patients. Part of our questionnaire involved asking residents in nursing/hospice facilities about the music that holds special meaning in their lives. Based on their responses we are able to curate music playlists for them. In addition to music, we ask questions about their preferences in online games and readings, which we then set up for the residents' use.
