Volunteers will be involved in asking the elderly questions that are based on the surveys that we’ve created. They will then work to create music playlists from a database of songs that revolve around the residents’ interests. They can also recommend a series of online games and other non-music services based on responses to questions. While interacting with each resident, volunteers can help set up those playlists and games for them in-person (along with residential home staff), maintain equipment (make sure the technology is working properly), and physically interact and emotionally support the residents.
Our mission is to promote non-pharmacological ways to help support the elderly. Rather than providing short term relief, we want to provide services that can be utilized with relatively minimal assistance and provide long-term benefits. We plan to use a personalized, evidence-based approach in our care to ensure that our interactions with the elderly are productive and to help make this experience enriching for volunteers, elderly populations, and nursing homes.
After an initial investment setting up all the facilities in the nursing home, for which we provide questionnaires, we expect you to make a couple of monthly visits to the nursing home to make sure operations are running smoothly and to provide emotional support to residents.
We cater to assisted living facilities, retirement facilities, nursing homes, and hospice centers.
We do cater to populations outside of the US, as we have established Care Companions Network chapters in Peru and Pakistan so far. We’re always looking to increase our global impact!
No, our chapters are representative of cities, not schools. You do not need to seek permission at your high school or university to set up a chapter; however, we recommend doing so as setting up the organization as a club at your school can help increase the size of your chapter.
We offer personalized music playlists, audiobooks & spiritual readings, online/in person board games, and other opportunities to promote social interaction amongst elderly residents.
You only need one other person who is interested in making the initial visit to the nursing home alongside you. If there are multiple students interested in starting a chapter with you, that would be great!
